For the same reason that I don’t ever want J.K. Rowling to ever write a Marauders prequel.
Okay, imagine that a chef handed you a bunch of cooking tools. And then the chef leaves. So you take those tools and you learn and you grow and you change and you spend years creating something great. And it’s not just you! It’s you and thousands of other people! You have all created different desserts! Many desserts are similar! Some are completely unique! You share them with one another! You learn from one another! You keep growing, learning, making more desserts, making better desserts, etc. Pretty soon, you have all created millions of delicious desserts.
So then what if (after years of being away), that chef came back, holds up a cake, and says, “This is going to take place of your millions of desserts!”?
That’s why I don’t like Pottermore. (And why I don’t want Jo to make a Marauders sequel.)
Because at some point in the past two decades, the readers have taken over Harry Potter. It’s really weird. But we have. We’ve created headcanons, fanfictions, fanarts, fanvideos, etc. Millions of them! I’ve been doing this for a little under fifteen years now! It’s been a pretty big part of my life! It’s been fun! I want to continue doing it! I don’t want to ever be limited by new ‘canon’!
And I feel like that’s exactly what Pottermore has done. It’s starting to limit some of these amazing ideas that people have had. There’s nothing I hate more than coming up with an idea or seeing someone else come up with an idea and then having someone say, “No, don’t you remember what was just on Pottermore? This idea is wrong!” It’s beginning to happen more and more. And I personally don’t like it.
That being said, the art is great!
Why the fuck didn’t they give Sirius Black veritaserum? like they could have asked him whether he was the potters secret keeper or not?! he would say Peter was and BAM! they would know he was innocent. it would have saved them all that azkaban nonsense. on second thought, why bother with trials when veritaserum was a thing? wizards have all these tools and spells but never fucking use them!! the wizarding world is an actual disaster
I think every writer/artist has that one story/drawing that gets completely skipped over, and they’d never say it aloud, but inside they’re like
‘fuck all y'all, that’s one of the best things I’ve done’
plus one story/drawing that everyone loves
‘really? that one?’
apparently this rant has struck a chord with people jfc
this is getting ridiculous
honestly like, again, as a fat person
drawing rose quartz skinny = fucking no, what are you doing
cosplaying rose quartz skinny = ok!! that is fine!! cosplay isn’t about body type!!
like, you have a CHOICE to draw rose skinny. you look at a fat character and make the conscious decision to take that from them. but people cosplay for a multitude of reasons–because they relate to a character, because they feel beautiful in the skin of a character, because they like the characters design, whatever. it is less about how u look and more about what it means to you. that’s not taking anything from me. i can still cosplay rose quartz and enjoy myself.
A moment of silence for all the times we drew people with arms behind their back to avoid having to draw the hands.
I really tried to scroll past this, the denial was eating me alive though.
This post is my life.
A moment of silence for all those times we drew people with really long side bangs to avoid drawing another eye.
drawing is fun until you realize how much better other people are at it than u
